Carrefour integrates Safaricom’s Lipa Na MPesa payment service. French multinational retailer Carrefour has become the first retailer in Kenya to fully integrate Safaricom’s Lipa Na MPesa payment service.

Carrefour customers will now be able to complete their shopping without having to show evidence of an MPesa message to cashiers, ensuing a faster cashless transaction at the till.

Carrefour, the second largest hypermarket chain in the world currently occupies 5,000 square metres at The Hub in Karen, with plans to open a second outlet at the Two Rivers Mall.

Lipa Na MPesa allows customers to pay for the goods and services by going to their Lipa Na MPesa menu, selecting Buy Goods and services, entering the till number and amount and lastly verifying the payment with their MPesa PIN.

In March alone of 2016 over KES 20 billion in payments were made at more than 44,000 MPesa merchants, an increase of 74 percent in the same period last year.
