Safaricom has launched a new consumer and merchant promotion that is anticipated to drive growth in Lipa Na M-PESA transactions during this festive season.
“The growing Lipa Na M-PESA ecosystem is enabling an increasing number of payments across various retail outlets, and this promotion aims to reward and appreciate customers who pay for goods and services using Lipa Na M-PESA this season,” said Sylvia Mulinge, Director – Consumer Business, Safaricom.
Lipa Na M-PESA Shinda Nyumba promotion, is part of other marketing drive geared towards increasing Lipa Na M-PESA transactions by 30% before the end of Safaricom’s Financial Year March 2016. The promotion targets shoppers who make their payments using Lipa Na M-PESA in addition to merchants, with Kshs 118 million prizes up for grabs.
During the launch of the promotion Rita Okuthe, Director – Safaricom Business said “We already have over 31,000 active tills and a similar number of inactive tills. So we are taking a two pronged approach to increase the number of Merchants; bring inactive tills back to life and continue registering more Merchants to our network,”
Previously Safaricom had partnered with Naivas supermarket in a promotion that saw a mother of two from Syokimau win the Grand Prize of a three-bed roomed house in Athi River.
Three customers stand a chance to win 3 bedroom houses valued at Kshs. 14 million. 18,000 merchants are also set to win airtime or cash during the promotion ends in January 25th, 2016.
Lipa Na M-PESA launched three years ago as a payments gateway for businesses has seen its transaction numbers surge to more than Kshs 15 billion every month.
