Safaricom redesigns MPesa to reduce fraud

Safaricom has announced that it will redesign its MPesa mobile money system to enable users see the name of the intended recipient during transfers transactions.

The operator is seeking to reduce the occurrence of people who send funds to the wrong person unaware, the Daily Nation reported. Betty Mwangi, Safaricom financial services director, said the enhancements are in their final stages.

Safaricom recently launched another system to let businesses issue instant payment notifications, with an optional validation step to confirm whether to accept or decline an incoming payment.

Automated payment disbursements and automated payment reversals are also part of the new system.
